The sound comes from TPOT 19, an episode of The Power of Two, the fifth season of the animated web series Battle for Dream Island. Grassy is one of its long running contestants, known for a high, childlike voice and blunt, cheerful lines. Clips from the series are frequently isolated by fans and reused on soundboards, and this crying moment spread in the same way as reaction audio. It sits alongside the emotional damage meme in edits where a small setback is treated like a devastating blow.

Grassy crying sound effect from TPOT 19, featuring the BFDI character sobbing dramatically. Used for sad reactions, fails and emotional meme edits.
This clip captures Grassy, the small grass character from Battle for Dream Island, breaking down into loud, wobbly crying. The sobs rise and fall in a childlike, exaggerated rhythm, with sniffles and trembling wails that stretch far longer than a normal reaction. Because Grassy is usually cheerful and simple, hearing that voice crack into full distress feels both sad and absurd. Creators use the drawn out crying to underline a minor loss as if it were a tragedy, letting the over the top sadness carry the joke while viewers instantly recognise the emotion.
