The greeting plays on Peter Griffin, the central character of Family Guy, the animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane that premiered in 1999. Clips built around familiar character names travel easily online, and this one spread through meme edits and soundboards because the elongated call is recognisable even without any picture. Users keep reusing it as a generic overfamiliar greeting for anyone called Peter, and for entrances that are deliberately too dramatic for the situation. Its simplicity means it still works in short vertical videos and reaction edits.

A long, drawn-out hey Peter greeting referencing Peter Griffin from Family Guy, used for funny callouts, reactions, meme edits and short videos.
This sound is a single stretched-out greeting, with the word hey dragged out for several seconds before landing on the name Peter. The pitch stays playful rather than angry, which makes the call feel like an over-the-top entrance or a teasing shout across a room. Because the build-up lasts so long, listeners know the payoff is coming and the delay itself becomes the joke. It works especially well over a character walking in, a friend appearing on screen, or any moment that deserves a ridiculously grand announcement.
