ODM gear, short for omni-directional mobility gear, is the harness and twin grapple system used by soldiers in Attack on Titan to swing through cities and forests while fighting Titans. The hook firing sound became shorthand for that fast, vertical movement, and fans began lifting it for edits, gaming montages, and anime memes after the series gained a global audience. It remains popular because the metallic launch is instantly recognisable, compact, and easy to drop into a cut without needing dialogue or context.

The sharp metallic grapple hook launch from Attack on Titan's ODM gear, used in edits when a character swings into action or escapes a tense moment.
This is the short, punchy sound of an ODM gear grapple firing and catching hold, a metallic thunk followed by a taut cable snap that instantly signals movement in Attack on Titan. The clip lasts barely over a second, but its sharp attack and mechanical bite make a cut feel faster and more urgent, as if the character has just launched into the air. Editors use it to sell momentum, surprise, or a sudden change of direction, because listeners recognise the gear's distinctive hook even without seeing the scene.
