Unagi comes from the Friends episode The One with Unagi, first aired in 2000, where Ross claims his karate training gave him total awareness and misdefines the Japanese word for freshwater eel. The scene with Rachel and Phoebe testing his theory became a lasting meme sound online, shared in edits and reaction clips long after the sitcom ended. Its humour survives because Ross never doubts himself, so the clip still fits moments of false confidence, failed awareness and smug predictions in everyday online conversation today.

Ross Geller saying unagi in Friends, his word for total awareness, now used as a meme sound for overconfident warnings and joke predictions.
This clip captures Ross Geller delivering the word unagi with total seriousness, stretching the joke as he insists it means a state of complete awareness. The delivery is dry, confident and slightly smug, which makes the contrast funnier when he is clearly wrong. Played on its own, the sound lands as a mock warning, like the speaker can sense danger before anyone else. It works because the line is short, distinctive and instantly recognisable, turning an ordinary prediction or reaction into a deadpan Friends reference that viewers understand immediately without any setup at all required.
