Breakout was released by Atari in 1976 as a single player arcade game inspired by Pong, tasking players with bouncing a ball off a paddle to break rows of bricks. Google later recreated it as a playable Easter egg in Google Image Search in 2013, introducing the game and its simple electronic sounds to a new audience. The wall beep from that version circulated on soundboards as a standalone clip because its short, recognisable tone captures the original arcade era without needing music, speech or any other effects from the game.

A short wall beep sound effect from Atari Breakout, the classic arcade game where the ball bounces off walls. Creators use it for retro game hits and bounces.
The Wall Beep is an extremely short electronic blip, lasting less than a third of a second, with a clean high pitched tone and an instant cutoff. It is the sound made when the ball strikes a wall in Breakout, so it feels like a tiny digital bounce rather than a melody or a voice. Played on its own it reads as a retro arcade collision, sharp enough to cut through other audio but brief enough not to distract. It gives any edit a nostalgic, lo-fi game feel and instantly signals impact, deflection or a change of direction.
