It Wasn't Me is a 2000 reggae pop song by Shaggy featuring Rikrok, from the album Hot Shot. The track tells a story of a man caught cheating who is advised to deny everything, and its chorus became widely quoted. Clips of the hook later circulated as reaction audio on social media, edits, and soundboards, where the short denial works without any setup. Its lasting appeal is simple recognition: a few notes and one line instantly signal playful guilt, making it reusable for pranks, fails, and caught on camera moments far beyond the original song.

The short Shaggy It Wasn't Me sound effect from the hit song, used as a meme reaction when someone is caught and instantly denies everything.
It is a brief vocal snippet of Shaggy delivering his famous denial line from It Wasn't Me, cut down to just the hook phrase. The delivery is laid back and instantly recognisable, with that distinctive reggae pop tone that makes the denial sound both guilty and playful. Even at under a second, listeners fill in the rest of the song in their heads. Dropped into a video, it instantly frames someone as caught in the act while pretending innocence, turning an awkward moment into a joke everyone understands.
