Boombastic was released by Shaggy in 1995 as the title track of his third album and became a number one hit in the UK and a top three single in the US. Decades later its opening boast was clipped for social media, where the six second line became a reusable meme for entrances, transformations and ironic self promotion. The humour comes from reviving a slick nineties dancehall hook for low effort phone videos, and its short length and clear first words make it easy to recognise before the punchline even lands.
À propos de ce son
The Mr Bombastic clip of Shaggy singing the famous fantastic hook from his 1995 hit song, still used in memes for a confident entrance or boast.
This is a short vocal clip of Jamaican-American singer Shaggy delivering the opening hook from his reggae fusion hit Boombastic, rolling out the lines Mr Bombastic and bomba fantastic in his deep, gravelly dancehall style. The delivery is smooth, swaggering and instantly recognisable, with the boast stretched out like a self introduction. Played over a plain moment it instantly turns the subject into someone impossibly confident and cool, which is why the contrast feels funny. It works best when the visual is ordinary or awkward but the audio treats it like a grand, romantic entrance.
