Metroid Prime, released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002, follows bounty hunter Samus Aran as she explores Tallon IV and scans creatures, technology and ancient artefacts to build her logbook. Each successful scan triggers the suit's data received notification, making the sound part of the game's rhythm of exploration and discovery. Clips of it later spread through gaming soundboards and video edits, where creators reuse it outside the game as a shorthand for unlocking information, finding something hidden or completing a small objective.
