Among Us launched in 2018 from developer InnerSloth and exploded in popularity in 2020, when streamers and lockdown gaming pushed its social deduction matches everywhere. The kill sound became a shorthand outside the game because the animation is so familiar: an impostor strikes, a crewmate falls, and the report follows. Like the Roblox oof, it turned a routine in game death into a reusable meme reaction. It is still used today for betrayals, eliminations and fake deaths in edits across gaming and comedy videos.
