Heigh Ho was written by Frank Churchill and Larry Morey for Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, the studio's first full length animated feature. In the film the dwarfs sing it while marching home from work, and its simple refrain became one of early animation's most recognisable songs. This storyteller recording credited to Hal Smith kept the tune in circulation on children's records for decades. Online it survives as a shorthand for cheerful labour, end of shift exits and any group moving together with exaggerated enthusiasm.
