Lay on Hands takes its name from the classic paladin ability in Dungeons and Dragons, where a holy warrior heals wounds by touch using a pool of divine power. The ability later became famous in video games including World of Warcraft, where paladins used it as a powerful emergency heal. As gaming clips and tabletop stories spread online, the sound became shorthand for a full heal or miraculous save, and creators now use it far beyond RPG footage whenever someone is instantly fixed, forgiven or brought back.
