The sound comes from the PlayStation App, Sony's companion app for PlayStation consoles, where it alerts players to messages, friend requests and other account activity without needing to turn on a console. Because millions of players hear it on their phones, it has become a familiar shorthand in gaming videos, streams and memes for an incoming PlayStation notification. Creators reuse it to recreate that moment on screen, and it still works because the tone is short, distinctive and instantly tied to PlayStation for its audience.

The PlayStation App notification chime, a short alert tone from Sony's PS App, used in gaming videos and streams to signal a new message or friend request.
This is the short notification tone from the PlayStation App, the companion app for PlayStation consoles. It is a clean, brief electronic chime that rises and settles quickly, designed to be heard over gameplay or background noise without being intrusive. For players it carries an instant association with a new message, friend request, trophy update or party invite, so in a video it creates a small jolt of attention and curiosity. Viewers who use PlayStation recognise it immediately, which makes it feel familiar and personal rather than like a generic phone alert.
