The tone is linked to the Motorola RAZR line of flip phones, which became a cultural icon in the mid 2000s for its thin design and distinctive alerts. As flip phones faded, the ringtone survived online as a ready made audio cue for a phone ringing off screen. Creators reuse it alongside a discord call sound in prank videos and group chat sketches, where a familiar alert instantly signals an interruption without any dialogue or explanation needed from the characters on screen.

The RAZR ringtone is a short classic mobile phone tone from a Motorola flip phone, used as a prank call sound and nostalgic alert in memes and videos.
This is a brief, bright electronic ringtone lasting just over a second, with a clean digital tone that cuts through background noise like a real phone ringing in a quiet room. It carries the instant recognition of the flip phone era, when a short melodic alert meant an incoming call or text. Played out of context, it makes listeners instinctively check their pockets or look around for a ringing handset. That split second of confusion is why it works so well as a light prank and a nostalgic punchline.
