Accelerator is the strongest Level 5 esper in Academy City from A Certain Magical Index, also known as Toaru, the light novel series adapted into anime in 2008. Voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto, the character became famous for his unstable personality and distinctive maniacal laugh during fights. Clips of the laugh were cut from the anime and shared on forums, YouTube edits and soundboards, where Accelerator memes spread it beyond the fandom. It remains a go-to anime laugh for editors who need instant menace without any dialogue.
About this sound
Accelerator's maniacal laugh from A Certain Magical Index, the unhinged cackle of Toaru's strongest esper used for villains and power reveals.
Accelerator's laugh is a long, deranged cackle that starts low and spirals into a high, unstable howl. The voice cracks with delight and menace at the same time, making it sound less like amusement and more like a threat. In the anime the character laughs when he is cornered, overpowering an enemy, or enjoying chaos, and that context sticks to the sound online. Dropped over a clip, it instantly turns a normal moment into a villain reveal, making the person on screen seem dangerously confident, unhinged, and impossible to reason with.
