The call comes from the opening theme of SpongeBob SquarePants, which premiered with the animated series in 1999. Painty the Pirate asks “Are you ready, kids?” and a children’s chorus answers before the song launches into its character introduction. That immediate call-and-response structure made the line easy to recognize, quote, and repurpose online. It remains useful for energetic setups, nostalgic television references, and audience-participation jokes, alongside clips such as the SpongeBob sad song and the recurring “My leg!” fish gag.
