Banana Cat rose to fame on TikTok in 2023 as part of the Happy Cat meme family, where costumed cats were edited into everyday situations with expressive vocal sounds. The crying version became a standalone reaction sound as creators reused the audio without the original video. It sits alongside other cat vocal memes like the sad meow song in edits about disappointment and comic heartbreak. Its continued use comes from instant recognition: a few seconds of the meow signals exaggerated sadness without needing any explanation or dialogue for viewers online today.
About this sound
The Banana Cat cry is the sad meowing sound from the viral TikTok cat meme, used for funny fails, disappointment and dramatic reaction video edits.
The clip pairs the Banana Cat character, a small cat in a banana costume, with a drawn out, wobbly crying meow that sounds both pitiful and absurd. The meow rises and falls like a sob, lasting long enough to build comic tension before it fades. Because the visual is so cute and the sound is so miserable, the contrast lands as instant comedy rather than real sadness. Viewers hear the cry and expect a minor disaster, a rejected snack, or an over the top reaction to something completely trivial in everyday edits and short videos.
