California Love was released in 1995 as a single by 2Pac featuring Dr. Dre and Roger Troutman, and later appeared on the album All Eyez on Me in 1996. Built around a sample and Troutman's talk box vocals, it became one of the defining West Coast hip hop records of the 1990s. The track reached number one in the United States and remains closely linked to Los Angeles imagery online. Its hook is now reused in memes, sports edits and travel videos whenever creators need instant California shorthand.
About this sound
California Love is the iconic West Coast hip hop hook from 2Pac and Dr. Dre, used in edits, travel clips and nostalgic throwback posts about the West Coast.
This clip captures the unmistakable opening energy of California Love, built around a funky synth riff, heavy West Coast drums and the call-and-response hook that made the track an anthem. The sound is bright, confident and instantly nostalgic, with a bouncy groove that feels like cruising in summer heat. Even a few seconds signal celebration, swagger and place, which is why the excerpt works on its own without the full song. It lifts a scene immediately, giving ordinary footage a larger, cinematic and carefree mood.
