Durian is widely known for its powerful, divisive smell, which is why a cat's instant rejection of the fruit became such an easy visual joke online. Short clips of animals reacting to strong food are a staple of reaction memes, and this one travelled as a standalone sound because the gagging alone tells the whole story. Creators reuse it whenever a smell, taste or surprise needs an immediate gross-out reaction, and its brevity makes it easy to drop into TikTok edits, shorts and meme compilations without losing the punchline.
About this sound
A cat sniffs a durian and immediately retches in disgust, a short viral reaction clip creators use for bad smells, gross food and over-the-top revulsion.
This short clip captures a cat encountering a durian for the first time, sniffing cautiously before the smell hits and it pulls back with a gagging, retching reaction. You hear the tentative sniff, a sudden recoil and the unmistakable wet, heaving sounds of a cat trying not to be sick, all packed into just a few seconds. It is funny because the reaction is so dramatic and so human, turning a simple smell test into instant comedy. Viewers laugh at the cat's disgust, recognise the notorious stench of durian, and immediately understand the joke without any explanation.
