About this sound

Steve Perry belts the 'Oh Sherry' chorus from his 1984 solo hit. Fans and editors drop this Journey-era vocal clip into reaction videos and nostalgic edits.

This is the famous belted chorus of 'Oh Sherry,' the debut solo single Steve Perry released in 1984 after fronting Journey through their biggest years. Perry pushes his voice into the stratosphere, stretching 'Oh Sherrie' across a run of impossibly high notes over driving arena-rock guitars and drums. The ten-second clip catches the most dramatic peak of the song, the part every listener waits for. It lands with pure eighties maximalism, a mix of genuine romance and over-the-top rock-star emotion that makes it instantly funny or touching depending on the context it is dropped into.

Pro tip

Drop the clip on the emotional peak of your scene, like a reveal or reunion, and let Perry's high note carry the punchline. Cut before the music resolves so the ending feels abrupt, and keep dialogue out of the vocal run.
