Dune is closely associated with immense percussion and an otherworldly musical palette. For Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 film adaptation, composer Hans Zimmer created a score built around unusual textures, powerful rhythms, voices, and specially developed sounds. Short drum passages from or inspired by that sonic world became useful in online edits because they communicate scale almost immediately. Creators continue using Dune-style percussion for desert visuals, science-fiction scenes, ominous arrivals, cinematic transitions, and jokes that deliberately make small events seem overwhelmingly important.
