Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is a psychological horror game released for the GameCube in 2002, developed by Silicon Knights. Its magick system uses voiced incantations in invented ancient languages, performed for spells tied to the game's Ancients and recorded under composer Steve Henifin. The game became a cult favourite for its sanity effects, which broke the fourth wall and distorted audio and visuals. Fans later ripped the chant audio for forums, videos and soundboards, where it remains a shorthand for forbidden rituals and Lovecraftian dread.
