About this sound

The shouted fire in the hole warning from a Garry's Mod Nextbot clip, used by creators to signal an incoming explosion or chaotic jump scare in gaming videos.

This clip captures a loud, urgent warning shouted just before something blows up, delivered in the frantic, distorted style of a Garry's Mod Nextbot chase. The voice cuts through game noise with a panicked, almost comical urgency, repeating the danger cue until the tension peaks and the moment lands. It sounds less like a calm military callout and more like someone sprinting away from an unstoppable pursuer, which is exactly why it works in edits. Played over gameplay or a reaction, it instantly tells viewers to brace themselves, turning an ordinary explosion or surprise into a punchline.

Pro tip

Drop it just before the explosion or reveal, not on top of it, so the warning makes the joke. Cut to the blast as the shout peaks and duck game audio underneath, but avoid looping it or the urgency fades fast.

How people use it

More information

Fire in the hole is a long-running warning call in shooter games, shouted when a grenade or explosive is about to go off. In Garry's Mod, that call took on a second life through Nextbot memes, where unstoppable chasing characters and loud, distorted edits turned ordinary gameplay into short, shareable horror-comedy clips. Those videos spread widely on TikTok and YouTube, where the phrase became shorthand for impending chaos. It is still used because the warning is instantly understood, even by viewers who have never played the game.
