Fortunate Son was released by Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1969, during the Vietnam War, as a protest against the draft and the way wealthy, well-connected young men could avoid military service while others could not. Written by John Fogerty, it became one of the band's most enduring songs and a shorthand for that era in films, documentaries and later online edits. Its extended version gives creators more of the riff and chorus to work with, which helps explain why the longer cut remains popular for montages and reaction clips today.
