About this sound

Karkat from Homestuck delivers the opening line of the Karkalicious parody in this short clip, used ironically for dramatic or sarcastic introductions.

This three-second clip captures Karkat Vantas in full attention-grabbing mode, announcing 'listen up y'all' as the Karkalicious parody kicks in. The delivery is loud, blunt and deliberately overconfident, copying the swagger of the original pop intro but filtered through Karkat's famously angry, shouty personality. That contrast is what makes it funny: a tiny, furious troll acting like a chart-topping diva. Played on its own, it works as an instant ironic fanfare, making any ordinary announcement feel absurdly important while letting everyone in on the joke immediately.

Pro tip

Drop it right before a reveal or entrance and cut the music in immediately after, letting the line land dry. Keep the volume punchy but not clipped, and avoid adding reverb, since the joke works best as a blunt, in-your-face announcement.

How people use it

Announcing a dramatic entrance in a Homestuck edit
Opening an ironic rant video with fake confidence
Punctuating a sarcastic announcement in a group chat
Introducing a friend like a pop star diva

More information

Karkalicious is a fan-made Homestuck parody of Fergie's 2006 hit Fergalicious, reworked around Karkat Vantas, the perpetually furious troll introduced in Andrew Hussie's webcomic Homestuck, which began in 2009. The 'listen up y'all' opening copies the original song's call to attention. The track circulated widely among Homestuck fans on Tumblr and YouTube in the early 2010s, becoming an in-joke for ironic, over-the-top entrances. This short cut survives as a soundboard staple because it signals sarcasm and fandom recognition in just three seconds.

FAQ

What is the Karkalicious listen up y'all sound?

It is a three-second clip of Karkat Vantas saying 'listen up y'all' at the start of Karkalicious, a Homestuck fan parody of Fergalicious. Fans use it ironically to announce something with exaggerated confidence.

Where does Karkalicious come from?

Karkalicious comes from the Homestuck fandom and parodies Fergie's 2006 song Fergalicious. It reimagines the pop track around Karkat Vantas, the angry troll character from Andrew Hussie's long-running webcomic Homestuck, first published in 2009.

Why do people use this sound ironically?

The humor comes from the mismatch between Karkat's angry, blunt personality and the glamorous pop-star attitude of the original song. Dropping the clip before an ordinary announcement makes it sound mock-important, which suits sarcastic edits, entrances and fandom jokes.
