The sound comes from a home video posted online in 2014 showing three-year-old Mateo Beltran arguing with his mother Linda about having a cupcake for dinner. Mateo's repeated 'Linda, listen' and 'honey, listen' lines spread quickly across social media and television, including an appearance that introduced the family to a much wider audience. The clip became a lasting reaction meme because the phrasing works outside the original argument, and creators still drop it whenever a conversation turns into a playful plea to be heard.
About this sound
A short clip of young Mateo pleading with his mom for a cupcake, now used as a meme reaction when someone will not hear you out in an argument.
This clip captures young Mateo mid-argument, repeating 'Linda, listen' with the serious tone of an adult trying to close a debate. His small voice rises and falls as he insists his mother hear him out about getting a cupcake, pausing for emphasis like he is making a final case. The contrast between his age and his confident, pleading delivery is what makes it so funny. Played over an unrelated disagreement, it instantly turns a stubborn moment into a joke about not being listened to.
