The clip circulates online under the name Maiu, from the Portuguese description of a man screaming meow at an egg. No original series, film or creator is credited with it, so its history is tied to reposting on soundboards and short video apps. It is grouped with other cat vocal jokes such as a scream meme and the sad meow song, and survives because the yell is instantly recognisable, easy to cut, and funny even without any visual context.
About this sound
Maiu is a meme sound of a man screaming meow loudly at an egg in Portuguese audio. It is used for absurd cat reactions, random jokes and silly video edits.
Maiu is a short, loud clip of a man shouting a drawn-out meow directly at an egg. The vocal is strained and exaggerated, closer to a scream than a normal cat imitation, which makes the whole moment feel completely random. There is no music or context, just the sudden yell and the absurd image it creates in your head. That randomness is the joke, as the sound lands without warning and turns an ordinary scene into something silly and memorable for viewers.
