About this sound

Patrick Star's German line 'es ist so dunkel hier drin' from SpongeBob, a short voice clip people use for dark rooms, blackouts and lost, confused moments.

This short German voice clip features Patrick Star saying that it is so dark in here, delivered in his slow, dim and slightly worried tone. The line is simple and instantly understandable even without much German, because the fear and confusion come through in the pacing and the flat, echoing delivery. It turns an ordinary dark room, closed box or sudden blackout into a joke, letting Patrick voice the panic for everyone in the scene. Lasting only a few seconds, it lands as a quick punchline before the picture brightens or the situation is explained.

Pro tip

Drop it the moment the lights cut out or a character opens a dark container, keeping the picture nearly black for the full line. Pair it with a hard cut back to brightness afterwards, and avoid music underneath so Patrick's worried delivery stays clear.

How people use it

Play it when the power suddenly cuts out.
Add it to a character entering a pitch-black cave.
Use it for an unboxing filmed in total darkness.
Drop it when someone gets stuck inside a closet.
