The sound comes from Sony's PlayStation 5, released in 2020, where it is part of the console's user interface for messages, invites and system updates. As clips of PS5 gameplay and unboxings spread on YouTube, Twitch and TikTok, the chime became instantly familiar even to viewers who do not own the console. Creators began lifting it for edits and memes to simulate a real console alert, and it remains popular because it signals new information clearly in less than two seconds.
About this sound
The PS5 notification sound effect from PlayStation 5, a soft chime that plays for messages and trophies. Creators use it for gaming edits and alerts.
This is the short notification chime heard on the PlayStation 5 when a message, invite or system alert arrives. It is a clean, soft electronic tone with a gentle rise that feels modern and minimal compared to older console sounds. The clip lasts under two seconds and cuts through clearly without being harsh. Viewers instantly recognise it as a console alert, which makes it effective for signalling new information, a completed action or a sudden in game moment without needing any on screen text.
