About this sound

The angry 'Oprotten, Rikkert' shout from the Dutch comedy film New Kids Turbo, used in memes to dismiss someone or joke about getting fired.

The clip is a raw, aggressive Dutch shout: a rough voice barks 'Oprotten, Rikkert', which translates to 'Get lost, Rikkert' or 'Piss off, Rikkert', and it lasts just under four seconds. It comes from New Kids Turbo, the 2010 film spun off from the Dutch Comedy Central sketch series about five antisocial gabbers from the village of Maaskantje, and Rikkert is one of that gang. The delivery is pure New Kids: loud, crude and confrontational, with no warmth at all. Dropped into an edit, it lands like a verbal door slam, turning any exit, sacking or failed attempt into a punchline of instant, exaggerated rejection.

Pro tip

Drop the shout on the frame where someone gets kicked or fired, and let it end clean before music kicks in. Pair it with a freeze-frame or a door-slam cut, and never soften it with cheerful music, since the raw aggression is the whole joke.

How people use it

Reacting to a friend getting fired or kicked out.
Captioning a fail clip where someone is instantly rejected.
Ending a roast video with a brutal dismissal.
Joking when a boss or teacher sends you away.
