About this sound

A Portuguese drum roll sound often used before a reveal, punchline or announcement. Popular in memes, edits and WhatsApp clips for building suspense.

This clip is a short drum roll used like the classic “drumroll, please” moment in Portuguese. It has a quick, rolling percussion sound that creates suspense, then primes the viewer for a reveal, joke or result. Because the phrase “rufem os tambores” is widely understood online, the sound works well in memes, countdown edits and reaction videos where you want to make a small moment feel dramatic. Even in a short format, it instantly signals that something important, ironic or funny is about to be shown.

Pro tip

Place this right before the payoff, not under it. It works best with a freeze frame, zoom on a face, or text like “the result” so the suspense lands before the reveal.

How people use it

Announcing a joke reveal in a meme edit.
Building suspense before showing test or game results.
Introducing a friend’s dramatic entrance in a short video.
Pausing before an ironic plot twist on WhatsApp.

More information

“Rufem os tambores” is a common Portuguese expression meaning “drum roll, please,” so this sound is mainly used as a suspense cue rather than being tied to one specific character or scene. Online, it appears in meme edits, WhatsApp forwards and short videos to dramatize reveals, rankings and punchlines. Its staying power comes from how instantly recognizable the phrase and percussion pattern are: viewers immediately understand that a result, twist or joke is coming next.
