About this sound

Shape of Club is a meme edit of Ed Sheeran's Shape of You where every key word becomes club, used for funny clubbing and party clips and nightlife edits.

This clip takes the opening line of Shape of You and swaps lover and bar for the word club repeated over and over, turning a smooth pop lyric into an absurd loop. The singer delivers it straight over the familiar marimba style beat, which makes the deadpan repetition funnier each time club lands. It lasts just long enough to set up the joke and get stuck in your head, working as a quick punchline for nightlife, dancing and going out videos where the humor comes from taking one word way too far.

Pro tip

Drop it right as someone walks into a venue or the beat hits on a night out edit, then cut hard on the last club for the punchline. Keep the original track low underneath and avoid looping it twice, the repetition is the joke.

How people use it

Play it when friends finally arrive at the club.
Add it to party edits that need a silly intro.
Use it for dancing videos with an exaggerated nightlife theme.
Drop it under memes about only ever saying club.

More information

Shape of Club is a parody of Shape of You, the 2017 Ed Sheeran single that became one of the most streamed pop songs ever with its dancehall inspired rhythm. Online editors began remixing its famous opening line, replacing lover and bar with club until the word loses all meaning. The edit spread through meme soundboards and short video apps as a shorthand for party culture, and it stays popular because the original melody is instantly recognisable even when the lyric is reduced to a single repeated joke.
