About this sound

Short voice clip from Gex 2 of Gex saying the tap water Jerry Garcias line, popular as a quirky retro game sound effect for memes and edits.

This is a brief voice clip of Gex delivering a surreal one liner about tap water and Jerry Garcias in his usual pop culture heavy style. The delivery is quick, smug and slightly absurd, which makes the line land like a throwaway joke you almost miss during gameplay. Stripped from the game, it works as a pure non sequitur, confusing anyone out of context while instantly signalling retro gaming humour to people who recognise the voice and the dated reference.

Pro tip

Drop it cold with no setup before a cut to something murky, cheap or suspicious looking, then let the full 4 seconds play out. Pair it with a freeze frame or zoom in, and avoid music underneath so the deadpan delivery stays clear.

How people use it

Drop it when someone drinks suspicious tap water.
Use it as a random Gex quote in retro edits.
Play it before revealing a weird Jerry Garcia reference.
Add it to gaming videos for an absurd non sequitur.

More information

The clip comes from Gex 2, the second entry in the Gex platform series built around the gecko hero firing off constant pop culture jokes while moving through TV themed worlds. Lines like the tap water Jerry Garcias quip were designed as quick background gags rather than story moments, which is why it works so well out of context. On soundboards and in edits it survives as a niche retro reference, shared mainly for its randomness and the recognisable wisecracking delivery.
