Walk the Dinosaur was released in 1987 by American funk-pop group Was (Not Was) and became an international hit after featuring on their album What Up, Dog?. Its prehistoric dance-craze lyrics and call-and-response chorus made it a lasting novelty favourite, later introduced to new audiences when Queen Latifah covered it for Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs in 2009. Online, the chorus survived as a ready-made soundtrack for dinosaur costumes, toy dinos, pets stomping past camera and anyone doing a deliberately goofy walk.
About this sound
Walk the Dinosaur is the catchy chorus from the 1987 Was (Not Was) hit, used in meme edits, dinosaur clips and funny dance moments online today.
This clip is the singalong chorus of Walk the Dinosaur, built around the repeated call to open the door, get on the floor and everybody walk the dinosaur. A bouncy funk-pop groove, handclaps and a deep, playful vocal carry the hook while the group chant repeats over the top. It sounds instantly silly and physical, like an instruction everyone has to obey at once. Viewers expect a goofy strut, a bobbing dinosaur costume or someone doing an exaggerated dino walk in time with the beat.
