The boom became known as the Vine boom because editors on Vine in the mid 2010s reused the same deep impact hit in six second comedy clips. After Vine closed, the clip survived on YouTube soundboards and later exploded again on TikTok and in Discord edits, where a louder boosted version became a standard reaction sound. It is now detached from any single video and functions as shared internet shorthand for disbelief, shock or a moment so absurd it needs its own sound effect to land.
