Dying Light is a first person zombie survival game released in 2015 by Techland. Runners are recently turned infected, faster and more aware than the slower biters, and their scream alerts other infected while they sprint at the player. Clips of the sound were shared on soundboards and in gameplay videos, where it became a popular jumpscare scream and shorthand for a fast zombie attack. Editors still use it because it is instantly recognisable to players and remains effective even for viewers who have never played the game.

The Dying Light runners scream sound effect from the zombie game, a fast infected shrieking as it charges. Used for horror edits, jumpscares and gaming memes.
This is the scream of a Runner from Dying Light, the fast infected that spots the player and charges in screaming. It starts as a sharp, ragged shriek and tears into a frantic, high pitched wail full of panic and aggression. There is no music or dialogue, just raw vocal terror that gets louder as the creature closes the distance. Hearing it instantly signals danger in the game, and out of context it works the same way, making a normal clip feel like something is rushing straight at the viewer with no time to react.
