The sound comes from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, the 2013 animated sequel, where Barry delivers a quick nwoo as one of his signature vocalisations. Clipped from the film, the one-second noise travelled through soundboards and meme edits, where its high, cheerful tone made it easy to drop into reaction clips and cute compilations. It has stayed in use because it is instantly recognisable to fans of the film, yet works even for viewers who have never seen it, as a tiny burst of playful surprise.

Barry's short nwoo sound from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, a high-pitched squeak used in memes and edits for a silly, surprised or adorable reaction.
Barry's nwoo is a tiny, one-second vocal burst that sounds like a soft, squeaky chirp pitched somewhere between a giggle and a surprised gasp. It is bright, quick and instantly cute, with a rising, almost musical lilt that makes it feel playful rather than startling. Because it is so short, it lands like a punctuation mark in a video, giving a character, pet or reaction shot an extra dose of charm. Listeners tend to smile at it straight away, which is why editors use it to soften a joke, highlight something adorable or turn a small moment into a memorable one.
