This clip is best known online as a short meme sound, pairing a familiar animated tow truck with an unexpectedly grave line. Its humour comes from that mismatch, which is why it travels well in short-form videos, reaction edits, and gaming clips where a sudden disaster needs an instant punchline. Because the line is only a few seconds long and instantly recognisable to Cars fans, creators can drop it into almost any format without explanation, keeping it useful for ironic, dark, and absurdist humour long after its first soundboard appearances.
About this sound
Mater delivers a deadpan line about the Pentagon in this short Cars meme clip, often used in shock reaction videos, ironic edits, and dark comedy memes online.
This short clip features Mater, the friendly tow truck from Cars, saying in his familiar laid-back drawl that they hit the Pentagon. The delivery is surprisingly flat and matter-of-fact, which makes the serious subject land with an abrupt, almost absurd jolt against his usual cheerful, small-town personality. That contrast is the whole joke: listeners expect a goofy Mater one-liner and instead get a blunt news-style statement. Played over a reaction shot or a sudden cut, it creates instant confusion, nervous laughter, and a sense of something going badly wrong.
