Tentacool is a Water and Poison-type Pokemon introduced in the first generation of Pokemon games, released for the Game Boy in Japan in 1996. Its distinctive cry was created for those original games and has been reused, remixed and referenced in later Pokemon titles, the animated series and fan content ever since. As Pokemon nostalgia grew online, individual creature cries became popular soundboard clips for edits, streams and reaction videos. Tentacool remains a favourite because it is instantly recognisable to longtime fans yet strange enough to work as a short comic sound on its own.
About this sound
The classic Tentacool cry from Pokemon, a short high-pitched electronic call used by fans in edits, streams, nostalgic gaming videos and meme clips.
This is the in-game cry of Tentacool, the jellyfish Pokemon from the original Pokemon games. Lasting just over a second, it is a short burst of warbling, high-pitched electronic tones that rise and wobble like a retro video game sound, with a slightly squeaky, cartoonish edge. It does not sound like a real animal at all, which is part of its charm. For longtime players it triggers instant nostalgia for the early routes and water areas, while for newer viewers it simply sounds odd, cute and unexpectedly funny when it pops up in an edit.
