About this sound

A loud Zero Two scream from Darling in the Franxx, the anime clip fans use as a reaction sound effect in edits, memes and short online videos.

This clip is Zero Two stretching out the word darling in a loud, high pitched scream that keeps rising until it sounds almost unhinged. The delivery is stretched far beyond a normal call to Hiro, turning a term of affection into pure chaos. It starts cute and familiar, then quickly becomes overwhelming, which is exactly why it lands as funny rather than romantic. Viewers hear instant obsession, excitement and panic all at once, making the sound perfect for moments that need an exaggerated anime reaction instead of a calm spoken line.

Pro tip

Cut in right as the scream peaks and let the stretched darling ring out over a freeze frame or sudden zoom on a shocked face. Keep the background music low underneath, and avoid trimming the start, because the build makes the payoff funnier.

How people use it

Drop it when a character spots their crush unexpectedly.
Use it over exaggerated anime panic or excitement scenes.
Add it to edits where affection turns completely chaotic.
Play it as a loud reaction to surprising news.

More information

Darling in the Franxx is a 2018 mecha anime where Zero Two, also known as Code 002, calls her partner Hiro, Code 016, her darling. That nickname became one of her most quoted traits as clips from the series spread through anime edits, reaction videos and soundboards. This stretched scream version exaggerates the nickname into a standalone joke, sitting alongside clips like the anime ahh and other short anime voice memes. It remains popular because fans recognise the character instantly, even without seeing the original scene or knowing the episode.

FAQ

What is the Zero Two darling sound?

It is a short anime voice clip of Zero Two from Darling in the Franxx loudly stretching out the word darling, the nickname she uses for Hiro, until it becomes an exaggerated scream used for reactions and edits.

Why does Zero Two call Hiro darling?

In Darling in the Franxx, darling is Zero Two's chosen nickname for Hiro, her partner and co pilot. Fans latched onto the word because she says it constantly, so even a single stretched version immediately identifies her character and their pairing.

How do creators use this sound?

Creators place it over crush reveals, panicked reactions, sudden zooms and over the top romantic moments. The long build works best uncut, with the peak timed to a facial expression or reveal, so the affectionate word lands as chaotic comedy instead.
