The clip comes from The Amazing World of Gumball, the Cartoon Network series about Gumball Watterson and his family in Elmore. In the episode The Joy, happiness itself becomes contagious, spreading through the school as students turn into smiling, zombie-like carriers who pass it on to everyone they touch. Short clips from the episode circulate on soundboards and in meme edits because the idea is instantly readable even without the visuals. It works as shorthand for excitement, peer pressure and trends that catch on far too quickly.

The Gumball zombies clip from The Amazing World of Gumball, capturing the Joy disease spreading through Elmore Junior High for funny reaction and meme edits.
This short clip captures the moment the Joy takes hold at Elmore Junior High in The Amazing World of Gumball, turning ordinary students into grinning, giggling, zombie-like versions of themselves. The audio is fast and chaotic, full of high-pitched cartoon laughter, excited shouting and scrambling movement as the infection spreads from classmate to classmate. It feels silly rather than scary, with the cheerful tone making the zombie panic even funnier. That contrast is why it lands so well in edits, instantly signalling that something harmless has suddenly spiralled completely out of control.
