About this sound

Woozie's short, wheezing laugh from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, used as a reaction sound for awkward jokes, fails and funny gaming moments.

This is the brief laugh of Wu Zi Mu, known as Woozie, from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The clip lasts just over two seconds and captures his distinctive high, breathy chuckle that breaks into a wheeze. It is not a big belly laugh, which is why it works so well as a reaction. Played after a bad joke, a clumsy mistake or an unexpected line, it makes the moment feel instantly more awkward and amused at the same time, as if someone nearby is trying not to laugh too hard.

Pro tip

Drop Woozie's laugh right on the punchline, not over dialogue, and let the full wheeze play out without looping it. Pair it with a quick zoom or freeze frame on the mistake, and keep the game audio low underneath so the chuckle stays clear.

How people use it

React to a friend's terrible joke in a gaming clip.
Punch up a failed stunt or driving crash in San Andreas.
Add awkward laughter after an NPC says something unexpected.
Use as a soundboard reply during funny Discord voice chats.

More information

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was released by Rockstar Games in 2004 and introduced Wu Zi Mu, nicknamed Woozie, the blind leader of the Mountain Cloud Boys Triads in San Fierro. His voice lines became popular in soundboard collections alongside other San Andreas clips like the Aw Shit Here We Go Again intro from CJ. As GTA nostalgia grew on YouTube and streaming platforms, short character reactions were clipped for edits and memes, and Woozie's laugh survived because it is instantly recognisable to fans yet short enough to drop into any funny moment.
