About this sound

Deimos saying uhhh uhmm from Madness Project Nexus, a short confused groan used for awkward pauses, brain freeze moments and meme video edits.

Deimos lets out a drawn out uhhh followed by a hesitant uhmm, sounding completely lost mid thought. The delivery is flat, slightly strained and stretched over about two seconds, with no music or effects behind the voice. It captures that exact moment when a character has no answer, no plan and no confidence in what comes next. Placed over gameplay or a reaction shot, it instantly turns confidence into confusion and makes even a serious scene feel clumsy and funny, because the hesitation says more than any line of dialogue could.

Pro tip

Cut straight to the uhhh on the frame where your character realises they messed up, then let the uhmm hang over a freeze frame or slow zoom. Keep game audio low underneath and do not loop it, one hit sells the confusion better.

How people use it

Drop it when a character forgets the plan completely.
Use it for awkward pauses in Madness Combat edits.
Play it after a failed jump or stupid death.
Add it to reaction videos for pure brain freeze moments.

More information

Deimos is one of the main fighters in Madness Combat, the long running Flash animation series created by Krinkels that began on Newgrounds in 2002. He returns alongside Hank and Sanford in Madness Project Nexus, the arena and story game released in 2021. His grunts and hesitant vocal sounds were clipped by fans into short soundboard clips and shared across gaming and meme edits. This uhhh uhmm moment stuck because Deimos is usually confident and reckless, so hearing him hesitate makes the clip perfect for confusion jokes.
