The Oiia clip spread online as part of the spinning cat meme, where a wide eyed cat rotates on screen while the distorted meow repeats. Short video platforms helped the format travel quickly because the loop is instantly recognisable, easy to greenscreen and simple to retime to any spin. Creators soon used it beyond cats for toys, food, game characters and themselves turning in chairs. Its appeal is the mismatch between a cute pet sound and a frantic, almost musical chant that sticks in the head long after the video ends.
About this sound
The short Oiia meow loop from the spinning cat meme, a distorted high pitched vocal sound used for silly spins, edits and funny reaction videos online today.
This is the brief Oiia sound, a sped up and distorted cat meow that loops in a wobbly, chant like rhythm. The pitch rises and falls so the cry is heard as oiia oiia instead of a normal meow, giving it a hypnotic and slightly unhinged feel. At under two seconds it works as an instant audio punchline, making a spinning pet, a dizzy character or an ordinary object rotating on screen feel far more absurd and energetic than the visual alone would suggest to viewers watching it.
